You’ll find Salt City Coin in the 1896 Normal College Building, situated on Hutchinson, Kansas’ picturesque Main Street. Step inside and feel transported in time, with the shop’s beautiful gold-tin ceiling and antique chandelier.
Many visitors come to see our signature Mercury dimes, with a large inventory spanning 1916 through 1945. We have both third-party graded and raw coins on display, ranging in grade from “good” to a near-perfect MS67FB.
About Us
A life member of the American Numismatic Association, David Knighten opened Salt City Coin in 2002.
David has focused his expertise on advanced grading techniques, counterfeit detection and other numismatic specialties. Known for guiding both new and experienced collectors in building their unique collections into the future, visitors to Salt City Coin find David highly knowledgeable and of great integrity.

Bullion
Salt City Coin carries a good selection of silver, from generic and specialty Christmas rounds to 90 percent pre-1964 silver coins. We also carry coins minted by the U.S. Mint and international mints from Canada, Australia, Great Britain, China and others. The most common type of bullion is the American Silver and Gold Eagles.
We are always buying gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins. We also buy bullion rounds and bars. Spot price is used as a reference when buying and selling bullion, but it will be adjusted by a discount or premium unique to each item.
Scrap gold jewelry and sterling silver .925 will be purchased at a fair price.
Currency
Salt City Coin always has a wide selection of currency, including rare pieces. We guide customers ranging from those just starting their collections to those who have specific pieces they’d like to acquire.
We also buy, trade and appraise currency. Just bring in your old currency, and we can get started!
Goldbacks
Salt City Coin is an official distributor of Goldbacks, a new currency made with real 24K gold and organized into small denominations. Goldbacks are available in an increasing number of U.S. states, and each state series features beautiful artwork based on the region’s culture.
